The global Halloween costumes market is valued at $5.07 billion and is expected to climb to $7.24 billion in the next 9 years. According to professionals who surveyed more than 1,000 Americans, people seem strongly connected to this holiday, and about 30% plan to wear two or more costumes.
People are also including their pets in the festivities, with 73% having pet-friendly Halloween parties, 75% putting up yard decorations, and people also vying for the most popular outfits each year based on pop culture. For about 16% of folks, this holiday season feels more nostalgic, likely because it connects to childhood memories.

For quite a long time, Halloween has become a time when couples have to put in a lot of effort to match one another and figure out the concept behind their outfits. Fizzy Mag mentions that there was definitely a time when folks just threw together whatever they had at home, but now you need character references, coordinated outfits, and a theme.
That’s probably why some folks start planning for their couples costume much earlier in the year, so that they aren’t scrambling for something to wear later. Beyond the time, effort, and money it might take, both people need to be on the same page about what they want to wear.

When social media became more about posting the highlights of their lives, holidays also became a time when folks could showcase themselves at their best. That’s why Halloween also became more commercialized, and people would spend hours looking for good outfits.
It’s great that couples costumes have evolved over time, so instead of an angel and a devil, salt and pepper, or a cop and a robber, there are more nuanced and creative outfits to choose from. As you’ve probably noticed from this list, folks have also been using literary references, movie characters, and obscure trends to lay the groundwork for their costumes.

It might seem silly or odd that so many couples want to match and coordinate outfits for Halloween, but Psychology Today says this is part of attachment. When folks start dating, their interests, likes and dislikes, and sense of self start merging to include the other person. This also makes them feel closer and more connected.
Halloween costumes are part of this: wearing similar clothes makes a couple feel like one unit and signals their connection to the world. This very public way of being is a normal part of a relationship and might fill people with warmth and love for their significant other.

Even if one person in the relationship is excited to show off their couple's costume, their partner might not be that thrilled. That’s why it’s important to be sensitive to your loved one’s feelings, because this kind of visibility can be hard to handle at first.
People's attachment styles play a big role in how open they want their bond to be with everyone else. Folks who like to post their relationship on social media are often observed to have a high degree of attachment anxiety, which is why they might want to show off their partner a lot. Whereas those with avoidant orientations aren’t big fans of relationship visibility.

Whether you're in a couple or looking for costumes for your little ones, not everyone is on board 100% of the time. According to Girls’ Life, the pressure to have perfect outfits for everyone might be real for some people, which is why they might ignore it even if their loved ones don’t want to take part in the process.
Instead, folks can take a step back and celebrate their individuality, which can come through more clearly with a solo costume. It might take a lot of courage to dress up when nobody else wants to, but it is the best way for someone to feel secure in their choices.

#21 Bob Ross. Halloween Costume For Two

As you’ve probably noticed from this list, even though many of the 2-person costumes were perfectly coordinated, some had unique designs and ideas that didn’t always match. That’s exactly what Halloween lovers need to understand: their personalities and sense of style might not always match.
That’s why folks should feel comfortable expressing their personalities, no matter how different their outfits look, because this holiday is just one night of fun.

Before these interesting and weird Halloween costumes came into existence, experts say the idea dates back over 2,000 years to the Celtic pagan festival of Samhain. This marked the end of summer and the beginning of “darker” months. During this holiday, people also believed the world of the gods became visible to humans, leading to supernatural mischief.
That’s why folks wore disguises, played pranks on each other, and blamed the spirits. Later, Christianity adopted October 31 as a holiday in the 11th century to help reframe pagan celebrations.
