Andrew Bragg, the shadow housing minister, said he believes in “big debates” about housing after pushing his new proposal yesterday to allow people to use their superannuation as collateral to get a home loan.

The policy hasn’t been adopted by the opposition, and leader Angus Taylor said yesterday it wasn’t Coalition policy.

We’re a great country, and we should be able to have big debates, as we had in the 80s and 90s about national savings and housing and the like, which led, in fact, to the super guarantee. …
