GILBERT, AZ (AZFamily) — Gilbert police shot and killed a man who allegedly stabbed three people in a home late Saturday night, killing two of them and sending one to the hospital.

Just before 11 p.m., Gilbert police were called to a home near Lindsay and Elliot roads for an “unknown trouble” call. The 911 caller reported that a suspect allegedly stabbed another person who was living in a backyard home on the property. Investigators say the property had multiple buildings and homes in the backyard.

Officers arrived at the scene and heard a woman screaming inside one of the buildings, according to police. Authorities spotted a man at the entrance of the home where screams were heard. The suspect ran inside, where officers found an injured man and woman.

They chased the man into a bedroom and shot him, according to police. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. It’s not known whether he was holding a weapon.

Officers found three victims, two women and a man, who had been stabbed at the home. The man died at the scene, and one of the women later died at the hospital. The second woman is expected to survive, according to police.

Police have not identified the two victims or the suspect. Gilbert police said there are no other suspects. It’s unclear if any officers were injured in the incident.

Arizona’s Family went to the property Sunday and spoke with a man outside of one of the buildings. He was visibly upset with tears in his eyes, and he didn’t want to talk on camera but said: “I know the whole story.”

Brian, who didn’t want to be further identified, said he’s lived in his home for four years and had never seen anything like this.

“It was a sea of police from all shapes and sizes,” Brian said. “I would say minimum 30.”

The Mesa Police Department, as part of the East Valley Critical Incident Response Team, is leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
