Tech CEO’s Eerie Conversation About Getting Into Private Jets Resurfaces After He’s IDed As Passenger In Florida Learjet Tragedy

Adam Robinson, who lost his life alongside his family in the doomed Learjet 60 crash, had previously spoken about how flying on private jets became part of his identity.

The tech CEO once spoke about seeing private planes as the ultimate status symbol, leading netizens to assume he was obsessed with wealth.

“Looks like the universe humbled him,” one harshly said after Adam tragically lost his life.

Planning to celebrate his birthday in a tropical destination, Adam Robinson hopped on the Learjet 60 and departed from Austin, Texas.

The $2 million private jet was flying to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas when it crashed in the Greenacres mobile home community in Palm Beach, Florida, around 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 1.

Adam, his wife Helen Sharp, and their two children, Emma, 4, and Charlie, 2, lost their lives when the plane nose-dived around 27,000 feet in the span of one minute before flight tracking data cut off.

Family friends Rachael Reed and Charmi Fehr (the owner of the luxury property, Arca Roatán Boutique Hotel, in Honduras), and the children’s nanny Anita Maria Cetina were also victims.

Jeff Gregory, 55, and his co-pilot, Nathalia Filgueiras, 20, were in control of the plane. Nathalia’s mayday calls and screams were the last thing recorded from the cockpit before their final moments.

Following the tragic plane crash, Adam’s old conversations about private jets resurfaced on social media.

The tech CEO was seen speaking to a woman over a video call, possibly for an interview or podcast, or simply a casual or private conversation.

He admitted he used to see private flying as something reserved for the ultra-rich, mainly the “Wall Street friends and hedge fund guys” that he knew.

“Some of my very rich friends were like using [private jets], and I just assumed that it was inaccessible to me,” he said.

He went on to describe how his wealthy acquaintances would casually suggest spontaneous trips and flaunt their financial status.

“They were almost like using it as this status symbol…” Adam recalled. “You’d be sitting at a dinner table, and then a guy would whip out his phone and be like, ‘do you guys want to go to Vegas tomorrow morning?’”

The deceased father said he eventually discovered that flying privately seemed to fit in his air-travel budget.

“I remember when I found out it was only a couple of thousand dollars,” he said, noting how the realization of being able to afford private jets left an impression on him.

“This feeling that I got of like, ‘wow, I can actually fly private too,’” he said, “I like understand in the status that I got… it became part of my identity.”

Following the devastating crash, netizens felt Adam had an apparent obsession with wealth

Adam’s old comments have prompted some netizens to question his priorities.

“Sadly, that’s what ended his life and his loved ones… Rest in peace. So very tragic,” one said.

“As the old adage goes, ‘more money, more problems.’ Very sad,” wrote another.

One said, “It’s sad that many people only feel validated by status symbols.”

“Flying private is way more dangerous than most people think…” wrote another.

Some people claimed his past statements showed an excessive focus on money and professional success.

“Everything I see about this guy has me thinking this guy prioritized a lot of the wrong things in life,” one said.

Another wrote, “I’ve watched many of his videos today and what’s tragic is how obsessed he was about money. Every video was him talking about success and money. Clearly, he loved his family, but this guy was obsessed with entrepreneurship & more money. Tragically built his house on sand.”

Adam built multiple tech companies after leaving his Wall Street career

The business focused on helping companies identify website visitors and use that information for marketing and customer retention.

Before that, Robinson had spent time on Wall Street, working as a credit trader at Lehman Brothers and Barclays Capital.

He later moved into the tech industry and co-founded Robly, an email marketing and automation company, in 2012.

“We butted heads on social media more than once,” a fellow tech CEO said about Adam

Brett Hurt, Adam’s friend and mentor from Austin, called the deceased tech CEO a “genuinely good, loving guy.”

He was an “amazing conscious capitalist” and a “beacon” for other startup founders in similar positions, Brett told Business Insider.

A fellow tech CEO spoke about disagreeing with Adam in the past.

“He was a competitor, and we butted heads on social media more than once,” Larry Kim, the CEO of Customers.ai, told the outlet.

“But he was a builder who pushed our whole category forward, and he made me sharper,” Larry added. “Competing with him was a privilege.”
