A woman was sexually assaulted at knifepoint in New York City’s Central Park over the weekend, police said.
A man approached the 39-year-old victim near East 66th Street and Fifth Avenue on Saturday evening, displayed a knife and sexually assaulted her, the New York City Police Department said.
Police were called around 9:30 p.m., and the victim was taken to a hospital. She was stable.
Police have not released a description of a suspect. No arrests have been made, and the investigation continues.
City Council Speaker Julie Menin condemned the attack on X, saying, “I am outraged by this horrific act of violence.”
“My thoughts are with the survivor, and I hope she makes a full recovery,” Menin said. “Every New Yorker deserves to feel safe in our city. The perpetrator remains at large, but I have confidence that the NYPD will work swiftly to apprehend him and bring him to justice.”
The assault is the latest attack to occur in Central Park. Last week, a woman riding her bicycle through the park in the evening was attacked by three men, NBC New York reported. The men hit her in the head, and she fought back, she told police. One of them grabbed her bag before they fled. She sustained injuries to her face, neck and back.
